OpenAI has introduced major updates to its AI video generation platform, Sora, aimed at improving content creation and storytelling for its users. The latest changes, announced on October 16, include the addition of a storyboard feature for Pro users and an extension of video length capabilities for all users.

The storyboard feature, now available on the web for Pro users, allows creators to plan their videos visually. By sketching out scenes second by second and frame by frame, users gain greater control over their content. This feature is designed to streamline content planning and provide a more visual approach to storytelling.

In addition to storyboards, OpenAI has expanded video length options for both standard and Pro users. Standard users can now generate videos up to 15 seconds long on both the app and the web, while Pro users can create videos of up to 25 seconds on the web. These enhancements significantly improve the creative flexibility available to Sora users.

The updates were announced via an AI-generated video shared on OpenAI’s social media platform, X. In the video, a virtual company representative stated: "Today, we are launching Storyboards for Sora 2. They let you sketch out your videos second by second, frame by frame. In fact, this video is made using Storyboards. We are also announcing longer videos. All users can now generate videos up to 15 seconds and Pro users up to 25."

Sora, introduced on September 30, is an AI-powered platform that enables users to create and share lifelike videos. The app combines advanced video synthesis technology with social features similar to platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Users can generate realistic AI avatars, called Cameos, which can perform a wide range of actions in short video scenes - ranging from everyday activities to imaginative scenarios.

Currently, the Sora app is available for iOS users through an invite-only system. Its initial rollout began in the United States and Canada, with plans to expand to additional countries in the near future.

By incorporating tools like storyboards and offering extended video durations, OpenAI continues to innovate within the AI-driven content creation space, empowering users to tell more dynamic and engaging stories.
